Behind the cabinet doors...

Modern Design & Function

Hidden Storage: You can now install toe-kick drawers in the small recessed area at the base of your cabinets. These open with a simple tap of your foot and are perfect for storing flat items like baking sheets or pet leashes.
The 3/4 Rule: Traditional drawers with wood-on-wood runners can typically only be pulled out about 75% of the way. Modern full-extension runners are required if you want to reach the very back of the drawer without struggling.
Strength in Thickness: Even a small increase in shelf thickness makes a huge difference in durability. A 3/4-inch shelf is about 73% stiffer than a 5/8-inch shelf, meaning it is much less likely to sag under the weight of heavy canned goods.

Medium Density Fibreboard (MDF)

Is one of accidental innovation, born from a desire to turn waste into treasure. The Accidental Invention.
In 1925, William Mason, an inventor and friend of Thomas Edison, was attempting to create insulation board. One night, he forgot to shut down his machinery. The press continued to operate, applying extreme heat and pressure to the wood fibres over a prolonged period. Instead of breaking the machine, the experiment resulted in a thin, incredibly durable, and dense sheet—the first accidental MDF.

   Robertson Screws

It began in 1906 with Peter Lymburner Robertson (P.L.), a Canadian traveling salesman who was demonstrating tools in Montreal. A common slotted screw slipped, causing his screwdriver to stab into his hand.
Instead of just cursing the tool, Robertson—an inventor at heart—went home and designed a better one.

The Invention
The Problem: Existing flathead screws were difficult to use, often stripping or forcing the screwdriver to slip out under pressure.
The Solution: Robertson designed a screw with a square socket in the head. This square-drive design was self-centering, meaning the screwdriver wouldn't slip, allowed for one-handed driving, and held the screw firmly to the tool.
The Patent: He patented his invention in 1909.
